How to Take Great Car Pictures

You know how important first impressions are. Take and upload great photos of your car on Eligo to make an impactful first impression on potential renters. Cars with multiple photos are 50% more likely to get rented.

Make sure your subject is clean, free of clutter and ready to go; then grab your camera and follow these simple steps to get started:

1. Lighting is Key

Natural light produces a beautiful setting for photos, but when it comes to cars you don’t want too much light to reflect off of the surface. Starting your photoshoot an hour before sunset or on an overcast day is much better than taking pictures on a sunny day. A gorgeous sunset can also be a great background for your photo if you can time it right.

2. Find the Right Angle

Holding the camera at eye level is usually not a good idea for taking car photos; try going lower or higher until you find the best angle for your car. Make sure that the angle that you work with looks natural and depicts the characteristics of your car accurately. Shooting towards the front corner of the car is a commonly used angle by car photographers, and is a great way to capture the front and side of the car. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different angles until you find what works!

3. Show Off Your Car

You know your car the best. Make sure to show off its coolest features in the photos. Take detailed pictures of those features that made you pick this car over others and share them with potential renters. The more details you have in the pictures, the more likely renters will notice those unique features. Because let’s face it, details tend to get lost in text…

4. Take Sharp and Clear Photos

This might seem like a no brainer, but make sure that your photos are crisp and clear before you upload them. Blur will make your photos look unprofessional.

5. Go Easy on the Editing

Although photo editing tools are a great way to make your photos look professional and correct any unwanted problems such as reflection and glare in your photos; do not overdo it. Try not to use any filters or editings tools that will change the color of your car, or make it appear different than how it normally does.

6. Fill the Frame

Your car should be front and centre in the photos without any distractions in the background. For the photos that show the entire car, make sure that the car fills the frame and does not look distant or get too close to the edges. Avoid cropping or marking out any parts of the car.

7. Upload the Correct Size

When uploading photos, pay attention to the technical requirements. Photos that are larger than 400kb in size will yield higher quality images. Try not to upload any photos larger than 4MB to ensure faster upload speeds and lower wait times. Once your photo is uploaded, Eligo will automatically resize it to a 2:1 format, and most photos uploaded on the platform will be sized to 440 x 220 pixels. That doesn’t mean that your photos will have to be exactly that size when you upload them, but if you follow the 2:1 format, you can ensure that your photos won’t get cropped out or resized in a way that distorts the image. As soon as you upload, you’ll be able to see your photo and make adjustments if necessary.

DON’T: Upload the Wrong Size or Cropped Out Photos

DO: Upload Photos that Display Your Car Front and Centre

The best way to take great photos is through practice. Grab your camera and get in touch with your creative side!
