HOW DO I JOIN ELIGO?

Glad you asked! Joining Eligo Cars is very easy. Just click on the Register tab and enter your information to create an account. We’ll send you a verification email. Follow the instructions in the email to complete your registration.

You will not be asked to provide any credit card or payment information until checkout.

If you’re an Owner, you will not be required to enter any payment information at this time unless you would also like to rent through Eligo Cars. For Owners, we only need a PayPal account so we can send you your earnings.

HOW CAN I LIST MY CAR?

To list your car on Eligo, your car needs to meet our eligibility requirements. You must have valid car insurance and must also satisfy our MAINTENANCE AND SAFETY REQUIREMENTS.

You will also need the following information to list your car:

  • Car’s license plate number.
  • Car’s make, model, and year.
  • At least one photo of your car. Listings with at more photos will get more attention from potential Renters. We recommend uploading exterior and interior photos.

A description of your car. Please include:

  1. Why Renters should choose your vehicle
  2. Any special features (sunroof, navigation, heated seats, etc.)
  3. Any requirements, such as the need to refill with premium fuel

WHICH CARS ARE ELIGIBLE ON ELIGO?

Only cars that are registered in Canada are eligible to be listed on Eligo. The vehicle must be no older than ten years, have fewer than 200,000 km/130,000 miles and be valued at no more than $500,000.00.

If you have a classic car with a model year older than 1991, you are also welcomed to list it!

The vehicles listed on Eligo must be in working order (e.g. working seat belts, no faults), have a clean title and be in excellent condition.

CAN I RENT MY ELECTRIC VEHICLE?

Of course. At Eligo we love electric vehicles!

To list your electric car, you need to register it just like any other car. However, it’s very important that you make it clear in the car’s description that it is an electric vehicle to avoid cancellations due to misunderstandings.

After a trip is booked, please make sure to communicate details about the charge duration, how to charge and any other special features of your car.

Your electric vehicle must be at least 80% charged before you hand it off to the renter.

CAN I RENT OUT A CAR THAT I’M LEASING?

If you are leasing your car, please make sure to check your lease or financial documents to determine if you may list your car. If you’re in doubt, please confirm with your leasing agent first.

WHERE CAN I RENT OUT MY CAR?

You may rent out your car anywhere in Ontario, Canada!

Please be aware that some renters may want to take your car on a road trip to the US (we do not allow trips to Mexico). Renters are required to disclose their trip information to owners at booking.

CAN I TEMPORARILY DISABLE MY LISTING?

Yes, to temporarily disable your listing all you must do is go to "My Garage", access "Edit your listing" and mark it as "Unlisted". This will remove it from searches and category pages, you can edit the listing and unmark "unlisted" at any time to re-enable your listing.

WHAT'S THE MILEAGE LIMIT?

Owners decide how many kilometers are included for each trip and include this information in their listings. If the Renter exceeds the mileage limit, they will be charged for each additional kilometre, at a rate set by the Owner.

HOW DO I SET PRICING FOR ADDITIONAL MILEAGE FEES?

Eligo will automatically calculate the cost per kilometer when you list your car. This optimized price is based on your car’s value in the current market.

You set your own price for excess kilometers. You will enter this information under your car’s listing detail page.

HOW DOES DELIVERY WORK? (OWNERS)

Owners may offer to deliver their vehicle to Renters at the beginning of the trip and pick it up at the end, at locations agreed upon with the Renter.

WHO PAYS FOR GAS?

Renters are responsible for dropping off the vehicle with at least as much gas (or charge in the case of electric vehicles) as it had at the beginning of the trip.

Renters should hold on to any gas receipts and both parties should photograph the gas gauge at the start and finish of each trip to avoid confusion.

WHAT ARE THE ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR DRIVERS?

  1. To rent cars on Eligo, you must hold a valid driver’s licence. Owners are required to check driver’s licences before the trip begins.
  2. You also must be 25 years of age or older to qualify as a Renter and have a two (2) year driving experience.
  3. Each Renter must meet our auto insurance score criteria and be a registered user on Eligo.

HOW MUCH WOULD A TRIP COST – WHAT IS INCLUDED?

All car listings on Eligo are based on rates set by the Owner. The Owner may offer a discount for longer trips such as weekly or monthly rental periods. Rates and discounts are detailed in the vehicle listing.

Eligo Service Fee:A fee of 10% of the total trip cost is applied at the time of checkout.

Insurance Fee: All Renters on Eligo are covered with our mandatory insurance policy provided through Northbridge Insurance which is 15% of your rental fee.

Delivery Fee: You may request a delivery of the vehicle to your desired location, and pickup from a location at the end of your trip. The delivery fee will vary in cost.

Taxes: Any applicable taxes are applied at checkout.

HOW DO I MAKE SURE THE CAR I AM RENTING IS IN GOOD CONDITION?

All cars on Eligo must meet our Maintenance and Safety Requirements and be in excellent condition. Listed cars are not individually checked by Eligo Cars, but before and after every trip the Renter and Owner will review the car using the ELIGO Checklist.Any car that receives complaints and/or low reviews will be removed immediately.

HOW DO I KNOW WHEN MY BOOKING IS CONFIRMED?

The Owner will accept and confirm your trip once you book it. If they do not confirm within 8 hours your trip will be automatically canceled and you will be free to book another trip. We will notify you once the Owner confirms and you’re good to go.

RIDING WITH PETS

Some cars on Eligo are pet friendly. If you are bringing your pet to ride with you, please make sure to choose a “pet-friendly” vehicle and let the Owner know. Please see our detailed Pet Policy.

HOW DOES PICKUP AND DROPOFF WORK?

Pick up and Drop Off details are set by the Renter and Owner. We encourage you to communicate with one another to determine the most convenient times and places.

At the time of pickup, the Owner will review and confirm the Renter’s driver’s licence.

Next, the Renter and the Owner will review the car’s condition using the Eligo Pick Up Checklist. They will take photos to document any pre-existing damage, mileage and the fuel level.

At the time of Drop Off, the Owner and Renter will fill in the Eligo Drop Off Checklist.

HOW DOES DELIVERY WORK? (RENTERS)

With Eligo you may have the option of having the Owner deliver the car to you at the beginning of your trip and picking it up at the end of your trip. Vehicles that are eligible for delivery and pick up will be listed as "available for delivery". The listing will also show the maximum distance that the Owner is willing to drive in order to deliver and pick up the car as well as the delivery fee.

HOW DOES THE INCLUDED MILEAGE WORK?

Included mileage is the number of kilometers the Renter may drive during their trip, set by the Owner. If you exceed this limit, you will be charged for each additional kilometer driven.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET A TICKET OR USE A TOLL ROUTE?

Renters are responsible for all tickets and toll route charges. Please see our Tickets and Tolls Policy for details.

CAN I RENT AN ELECTRIC CAR ON ELIGO?

We encourage all environmentally friendly options!

Keep in mind that electric cars can feel a little different at first if you’ve never driven one before. Once you find an electric car that you like on Eligo make sure you talk to the Owner about these important details:

  • How long does the charge last?
  • How long does it take to charge?
  • How do I charge the car?

It’s a good idea to plan and map out charge stations before starting a trip. That way you won’t risk running out of charge.

HOW MANY KILOMETERS ARE INCLUDED FOR MY TRIP?

Owners set the maximum driving distance for their vehicle. You will find this information on the vehicle listing. Please check the mileage allowance and make sure that it will be enough for your planned trip ahead of booking.

WHAT IF I HAVE A NON-CANADIAN DRIVER’S LICENCE?

Driver’s licence holders of other countries can also become a part of the Eligo community, if they meet the eligibility requirements. To become a member, you need to provide photos of your driver’s licence and/or passport, depending on your country.

If you’re using a non-Canadian payment card, please contact your bank ahead of booking the trip and make sure that your card is authorized for an international charge. If your card is not authorized for international use, it may be declined and delay or interfere with your booking.

DO I NEED TO CLEAN THE CAR BEFORE I RETURN IT?

Please keep in mind that with Eligo, you’re renting a personal vehicle and the Owner expect you to take care of their car as if it were your own. You don’t have to have the car professionally cleaned but please make sure that you return the car is in the same condition in which it was received.

If the car is returned in poor condition, the Owner has the option to charge a cleaning fee. (Please see Eligo Cars Cleaning and Damage Policy).

WHEN DO I PAY/ WHEN IS MY PAYMENT PROCESSED?

Your card will be authorized for payment when you request a booking. The payment will be processed once the Owner confirms the trip. The Owner may request additional charges at the end of the trip for items such as cleaning, tickets, late return fee or excess mileage.

Also, as per Eligo- Provision Policy: The provision amount will be charged to Driver's credit card, prior to trip start time.

CAN I ADD AN ADDITIONAL DRIVER ON MY APPROVED TRIP?

Primary Driver can register up to 3 additional drivers on the approved trip. If "Additional Driver" does not have an account on Eligo, they must create one and go through the DL verification process.
Only users with a verified DL are allowed to be an "Additional Driver" As per Eligo Policy- Fines& Fees: Driver will be charged for additional drivers.

ELIGO CARS COMMUNITY GUIDELINES

The Eligo Cars Community is made up of all registered users of the Eligo Cars Platform, Owners, Renters and the Eligo Cars Team (staff). We are a Community that strives to create an environment which reflects our values of respect, safety, integrity and reliability. These Community Guidelines are intended to codify and exemplify behaviours that reflect and support our values.

Respect
  1. Treat everyone with respect in every interaction.
  2. Don’t insult or treat others differently because of their race, ethnicity, national origin, religious affiliation, sexual orientation, sex, gender, gender identity, disability, or serious diseases.
  3. Don’t produce, post or engage in hate speech or share (digitally or otherwise) personal information meant to blackmail, bully or harass anyone.

Safety
  1. Don’t engage in criminal activity, commit physical or sexual assault, sexual abuse or harassment, robbery or any other act of violence.
  2. Don’t transport weapons of any kind in Eligo Cars vehicles.
  3. Work with law enforcement, as appropriate, and respond to valid law enforcement requests.
  4. Don’t communicate an intent to harm anyone by words or physical actions.

Integrity
  1. Don’t make transactions outside of the Eligo Cars platform; commit booking fraud, credit card fraud, launder money, attempt to drive traffic to other sites or market unrelated products, divert payments meant for others, or make false claims against other members of the community.
  2. Don’t provide false names or dates of birth, use a vehicle for commercial purposes, maintain duplicate accounts, or create an account if you’re under 18.
  3. Don’t provide inaccurate vehicle information, post incorrect availability, mislead people about the type, nature, or details of our vehicle, substitute one vehicle for another, set up fake or fraudulent vehicle listings, leave fraudulent reviews or engage in deceptive pricing.

Reliability
  1. Avoid cancellations to the best of your ability. Your fellow Community Members rely on you and are negatively impacted by unfounded, last minute and frequent cancellations.
  2. Ensure that Eligo Cars vehicles are ready for hand off and returned as promised.
  3. Don’t have persistently and pervasively low ratings.
  4. Be responsive during the booking process and throughout the Eligo Trip.
  5. Always provide a reachable and available point of contact.
  6. Willingly participate in the resolution process. Act in good faith and with good intentions.
